Abstract

Although many readers of the Bible assume it reflects a homophobic culture, this essay explores how the use of gender imagery and language in the book of Jeremiah probably reflect ancient notions of gender fluidity. These images are seen not only in oracles of condemnation but also in those of restoration. This evidence invites readers and faith-based institutions to think about gender fluidity as life-giving.
