Abstract

This essay eschews dualistic schemas that render online/hybrid communion virtual, fake, disembodied, and unholy. Arguments from this standpoint fail to discern the body who chose to or have no choice but to assemble for worship through digital means (1 Cor 11:29). Disabled, immunocompromised, and queer bodies are often pushed to the margins of the able-bodied assembly gathered within one building. Yet, these are members of our holy communion who, for many justifiable reasons, cannot come to the closest physical Table secured within the four walls of a church building. Turning our backs on online and hybrid communion holds the Eucharist captive from these siblings.
