Martin Luther, Lutheran Theology, and Paedocommunion

Abstract

Scott James Meyer explores a theology of paedocommunion with special reference to Luther. The author argues that Luther has left us with a powerful and relevant body of work that warrants a confessional Lutheran doctrine on paedocommunion that would allow that baptized Christians of all ages be welcomed and indeed encouraged to approach the table of the Lord boldly. This represents a fluid continuity of the Lutheran doctrine of baptism, eucharist, predestination, the covenant, marriage, and family.
